In South Africa, the 2014 Annual National Assessment showed that the national average maths score for 9th graders was a shockingly low 11%, with only 3% of 9th grade students scoring greater than 50%. Numeric aims to address this problem by using open education resources and trained, low-cost coaches to deliver an assistive pedagogy that guides learners through core content. This mitigates dependence on in-class time with over-burdened teachers and and has delivered significant learning gains for students at all levels.
We teach kids to love maths! In a country in crisis over poor maths education results, Numeric works to improve maths education in South Africa in two important ways - by supporting learners with a year-long after-school maths program and by developing the next generation of maths teachers for the public school system. After participating in our programs, learners leave primary school with confidence and crucial maths knowledge that will help them succeed in high school and new enthusiastic teachers leave university well-equipped and ready for full-time teaching on day one!
