Why We Invested
In May 2017 Omidyar Network and Lemann Foundation announced a strategic partnership focused on leveraging the power of technology to improve learning outcomes for public school students in Brazil. Through our alliance with Lemann Foundation, Brazil’s leading education philanthropy, we aim to accelerate edtech adoption within the public sector, focusing on solving ecosystem and demand-side challenges -- like opaque procurement processes and poor connectivity -- as well as supporting innovative tools and products reaching the public sector and all Brazilian learners. In 2020, Imaginable Futures and Lemann Foundation leveraged their existing partnership into the Alliance to support public school learners, educators and families through the COVID-19 pandemic. The Alliance's C-19 Emergency Relief Fund was launched with a total commitment of US$1 million, to provide immediate relief and ensure high quality learning and well-being in the short term, and also to create critical infrastructure in Brazil’s education system for the long term.
To create a more just, more advanced Brazil, all children must receive a high-quality education, no matter where they live, how poor their neighborhood is, or what color they are.
