Alana Institute has recently sought to integrate racial equity into its work. In partnership with the Geledés Institute, they are conducting research on Brazilian law 10.639, which requires the teaching of Afro-Brazilian history and culture in schools. We are supporting this work because it will shed light on best practices, as well as challenges, that municipalities face when applying a racial equity approach to the education curriculum. Learnings will be used in knowledge sharing campaigns and future advocacy efforts for racial equity in Brazil.
