High youth unemployment rates in Africa are not because of lack of skills and abilities of its youth, but because of lack of role models and mentors (what can someone like me do?), limited opportunities for holistic development and not enough support to fully develop a sense of identity and self-belief. We know youth want to show up, take ownership and contribute to the growth and development of their communities and societies. Emerging Leaders Foundation is a Kenyan non-profit organization that is providing youth opportunities through leadership development and mentorship to young men and women to achieve meaningful, dignified, and impactful participation in governance, economy and public affairs at all levels of society.
At Emerging Leaders Foundation–Africa, we envision a dignified society with values-based leaders. We believe in the potential, power, and agency of young people to lead change. We believe that when young people are well-informed and equipped with knowledge and skills, they can actively and meaningfully participate in shaping their own destinies and those of their nations. We therefore work to ensure that youth move from the periphery to the centre of policy and decision-making processes.
