About

Nova Escola is a non-profit organization working to improve education in Brazil by strengthening the educator as the leading agent of transformation. To achieve this goal, it developed the largest products and services platform for Brazilian educators. Nova Escola is the education brand most respected and admired by teachers. Its strong record of accomplishment has allowed it to reach 3 million unique visitors per month and 1.8 million followers on social networks.

Why We Invested

Teachers are the single most important factor in improving student achievement. That’s why, while most education innovation is geared toward students, we are excited about innovations that vault teachers to the top of their game. The opportunity for teacher-centric innovation is especially urgent in Brazil where the country’s first set of national learning standards were recently implemented. We’re excited to build on Nova Escola’s direct relationship with teachers and expertise in the national standards to deliver a rigorous set of digital and blended courses to support teachers in the implementation of the national learning standards.

What We Learned

With support from Lemann Foundation and Omidyar Network, Nova Escola will develop a rigorous set of digital and blended courses to support teachers in the implementation of the Base Nacional Comum Curricular, given the country’s first set of national learning standards.

Teachers make the teaching and learning process a powerful and joyful life ride of discovery to kids of all ages — and Nova Escola exists to encourage and empower all teachers to transform Education in Brazil.
